SUMMARY: Determined to become a Jedi, Obi-Wan makes a decision.

Obi-Wan stared at his reflection in the mirror over the refresher's water basin. It wasn't that he was a vain lad—far from it—but every day his reflection stared back at him nonetheless. He knew that a choice would be placed before him, a choice he would rather not make.

What would he do if a master did not choose him? Would he be content to work in the archives, doing research for all the Jedi teams that got to go to places he would never see? Or perhaps he would ask for a more domestic life, aiding the AgriCorp as they helped refugees and other settlers with their crops.

No, he would not settle for that.

Obi-Wan set his jaw with determination. He would go to the salle and work out every day. Perhaps he would get noticed, perhaps not. Perhaps fellow padawans and Jedi for years to come would tell the tale of the boy who would not give in, who danced the training salle with his sabre until his feet bled, hands worn raw, until his hair had grown to his shoulders, and became the oldest padawan who never left the Temple walls.

A smile played upon Obi-Wan's lips as he pictured the ridiculous scene. No, it would not come to that, he mused, but he was determined not to give up.

Tucking the padawan braid behind his ear, Obi-Wan left his quarters with a twinkle in his eye and purpose in his stride.

( Other scenes from Obi-Wan Kenobi's life. )
